About Me

I’m Amy Evans, P.E., a licensed structural engineer in Wyoming and Colorado and the owner of Third Element Engineering.

Born and raised in Wyoming, I understand the region’s weather extremes, expansive soils, and the unique challenges they pose to homes and buildings across the high plains.

Since founding Third Element in 2012, I’ve completed more than 1,500 engineering design projects and personally conducted over 800 structural inspections throughout Southeast Wyoming and Northern Colorado. My experience spans residential, commercial, and multi-family properties, including foundation evaluations, framing assessments, and structural consultations for real estate transactions and insurance claims.

Before pursuing self-employment full-time in 2018, I worked at the University of Wyoming, where I refined my expertise in building systems, code compliance, and design documentation.

Today, my inspections blend technical accuracy with clear communication — helping clients make confident, informed decisions about the properties they own or hope to purchase.

A Hands on Understanding of Real Estate

Long before becoming a licensed engineer, I was already knee-deep in renovation projects. I bought my first home — a foreclosed fixer-upper — during my senior year of college and spent weekends commuting between Laramie and Cheyenne to bring it back to life. That experience sparked a lifelong passion for understanding how buildings truly function from the inside out.

Since then, I’ve purchased, renovated, and sold multiple properties across Wyoming, South Dakota, and Nebraska, including a historic craftsman home in Laramie’s Tree Area, a pair of four-plexes and a triplex in Wheatland, and a downtown Laramie commercial building. I’ve also managed both long-term and short-term rentals — giving me firsthand insight into what matters most when evaluating a structure’s condition and long-term performance.

Because of this background, my inspection process is rooted not only in engineering precision but also in practical, real-world experience. I know how to spot potential issues early, explain what they mean in plain terms, and outline smart, realistic paths forward.

For me, engineering has always been about more than calculations and codes — it’s about helping people understand the structures they rely on every day. My goal is to make engineering simple, approachable, and useful, not intimidating.

When I step into a home or building, I’m not just looking at materials and load paths; I’m thinking about the people who live, work, and invest there. I believe every client deserves clear, honest information and practical guidance they can trust. That’s the foundation of how I approach every inspection.

Outside of work, I’m a long-distance runner frequently training for my next marathon, a student of the Greek language, and an avid traveler who finds inspiration in architecture, culture, and the outdoors. I’m also a wife and mom of two daughters who remind me every day that balance, patience, and laughter are just as important as precision and discipline.

From my first renovation project to hundreds of structural inspections later, my philosophy has remained the same — combine professional expertise with genuine care.
